Liz Kim
Hi, I’m Liz.
I’m Korean-American, born and raised in San Jose, CA. Growing up in the Bay Area, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to a melting pot of different foods. I grew up eating mostly Korean food at home. My sweet, hard-working Umma (~Mom in Korean) tried her best by incorporating more American cuisine into some of our meals, as she tried to replicate what she learned by working in cafeterias during most of my adolescent years. At one point she actually ran a deli in downtown San Jose that served delicious sandwiches and daily hot plates. I guess you can say my Umma plays a big part in my passion for food.
I moved to San Francisco for college and ended up living there for about 8 years before moving to now, Portland, OR. My love and passion for food has grown tremendously as I learned to navigate life on my own, learning how to feed myself. I got to eat and explore every crevice of the city during my early twenties that have changed the course of my life for the better. I was fortunate enough to land an opportunity within the food-tech world early on in my career, and had the chance to eat and work with hundreds of different restaurants and small businesses. Having the privilege to work closely with chefs and restaurant owners really was a dream, as I got to learn about so many different cultures and foods that bring people together.
Fast forward to now, while I don’t work in the food-tech world anymore, I’m just your typical home cook that loves sharing food, recipes, and experiences. As corny as it sounds, my love for food runs deep. Food makes me feel good, and it makes me feel happy. There’s just something about the way it can bring people together. Over hardship, celebration, and in times of grief. I really believe that even on the darkest of days, food has a way of comforting us, and in some ways, heal us. Or at least, that’s what it does for me.
If there is anything that I hope you take away from visiting my blog, is encouragement to cook, eat, and enjoy the moment. I love connecting with new people and talking about all things food. Please say hello!
